Tests for: LDL (so-called Bad Cholesterol), HDL: (Good Cholesterol), VLDL and Triglycerides
The Lipid Panel is a group of tests that measure the level of Cholesterol and Triglycerides. It identifies abnormalities in the lipids, which are fat like substances present in the blood and are a source of energy. Monitoring and maintaining these lipid levels is important as an excessive amount of Cholesterol and Triglycerides can lead to stroke and heart diseases. Lipid Bundle or Lipid Profile determines the level of specific lipids in the blood to determine certain genetic diseases, risks of Cardiovascular Diseases (CVD), and rarely forms of Pancreatitis.
It is usually performed with two other important panels, the Complete Blood Count (CBC) and Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP).
